Formats and Competitions

The three cricket formats and major competitions

In cricket betting, it helps to understand the format first, because the types of markets differ across T20, ODI, and Test.

T20: The fastest format — just 20 overs. BPL, IPL, and the T20 World Cup draw the most interest from Bangladeshi fans. Odds shift from moment to moment, making live betting especially popular here.

ODI: This 50-over format means matches run longer. Bangladesh Tigers ODI fixtures are consistently active in the betting markets. Odds move significantly around bowling changes and after the powerplay.

Test: Betting on a five-day match calls for a different kind of patience. Because a draw is a possible outcome, there are three markets — Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. Pitch conditions and weather have a clear effect on the odds.

betbaji carries markets for all major competitions from the BPL season through to ICC tournaments. Football betting is covered further down the page.

Betting on football and other sports — what's different?

Cricket is the most popular sport in Bangladesh, but football betting gets equal attention on betbaji. Markets for the English Premier League, Champions League, and local tournaments are always available.

The main difference between cricket and football betting is match length and how in-play odds move. In football, odds shift immediately after a goal; in cricket the same happens after a wicket or boundary, but odds also drift gradually over the course of overs.

Football has a draw as a separate market (the 1X2 method — Team A wins, draw, Team B wins), which does not exist in limited-overs cricket. A draw is only possible in Test cricket. Understanding this difference makes it easier to choose the right market.

The betbaji Bet section has betting markets for cricket, football, and other sports.

Betting Markets

The 7 most popular cricket markets

Before placing a bet on any market, find out how each one works.

Match Winner

The simplest market — betting on which team will win the match. In a T20 where Team A is at odds of 1.80 and Team B at 2.00, a ৳1,000 bet on Team B returns ৳2,000 if they win.

All Formats

Toss Winner

Settled before the match even starts — which team wins the toss. Since both outcomes are equally likely, the odds are usually almost even. A popular option for those who want a quick result with a small stake.

Instant Result

Top Batsman

Betting on which batsman will score the most runs in the match. Batting order and pitch type play an important role here.

Player Market

Total Runs Over/Under

Whether the total runs in the match will go above (over) or stay below (under) a set number — the result does not matter here, only the run count.

Runs-Based

Multi Bet

Multiple selections are combined, and all of them must win for a payout. If three selections are at decimal odds of 1.50, 1.70, and 1.80, the combined odds are 4.59 — a ৳100 stake returns ৳459 if all three win.

Higher Returns

Innings Runs Market

Betting on how many runs will be scored in a single innings, regardless of the match result. Separate markets for first-powerplay runs in ODI or T20 are also available, and are well known among experienced bettors.

Innings-Based

Wicket Market

How many wickets a bowler will take, or in which over a wicket will fall — these specific markets tend to carry higher odds. The role of spinners in Test matches is especially relevant here.

Odds Explained

Decimal, fractional and American odds — how all three formats work

betbaji can display odds in three different formats. The same value can be written three ways — knowing this removes any confusion.

Example 1 — An evenly matched game

Team A wins, stake ৳1,000. The same price written three ways: decimal 2.50, fractional 3/2, American +150. If it wins, the return is ৳2,500 (৳1,500 profit + ৳1,000 stake); if it loses, ৳1,000 is gone.

Example 2 — A favourite's market

Team B is the favourite. Decimal 1.50, fractional 1/2, American -200. American minus odds show how much you need to stake to win ৳100. A ৳1,000 stake returns ৳1,500 (৳500 profit).

The decimal method is the simplest — stake multiplied by odds equals total return. The fractional method shows profit only; the stake must be added separately. In the American method, a plus sign means underdog and a minus sign means favourite.

In-Play Betting

Live betting — odds change the moment a wicket falls

Live Markets

The odds set before a match starts are never the same as the odds once play is under way. In-play or live betting means you can place a bet while the match is in progress — and odds update in real time after every event.

In a T20, if 3 wickets fall in one over, the batting side's odds worsen considerably. Conversely, when a match-winning partnership builds, the situation reverses. In live betting, these are the moments when decisions have to be made.

In an ODI, the score at the end of the powerplay, the pressure of the run rate in the death overs, and the crunch of the final 10 overs — odds move at each stage. In Test matches, pitch conditions and fading light also cause odds to shift towards the end of a day's play.

Live betting requires quick decisions, but staying within your budget is the most important thing. For advice on responsible play, read the Responsible Gaming page.

Practical Advice

Things to keep in mind before starting cricket betting

Betting is a form of entertainment — keeping the following points in mind makes for a more organised experience.

  • Choose markets based on the format: High-scoring markets are more relevant in T20; in Test cricket, session or day-based markets offer different opportunities.
  • Focus on one format at a time: Odds behave differently across T20, ODI, and Test — it is better to get comfortable with one format first.
  • Set your budget in advance: Decide on a separate budget for each match and do not go beyond it — avoid chasing losses with bigger bets.
  • Keep the number of selections in a multi bet limited: Adding more selections to a multi bet increases the combined odds, but reduces the chance of all of them winning — it is better not to go beyond 3–4.
  • Be patient in live betting: Odds move fast, so make your decision only after reading the match situation — rushing increases the chance of mistakes.
  • Betting is entertainment, not income: Treat cricket betting as a leisure activity — thinking of it as a reliable source of income carries the risk of problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cricket betting questions and answers

Both BPL and IPL are T20 format leagues, so the types of markets are broadly the same — match winner, total runs, toss, top batsman, and so on. However, there can be differences in liquidity or market depth. As IPL is a larger global tournament, more markets tend to be available there. The main markets for BPL are also available on betbaji.

Yes. In a Test match there are three possible outcomes — Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. So the match winner market has three options. In ODI or T20, a result is mandatory, so there is no draw market.

In a multi bet, all selections are combined together. If any one selection loses, the entire bet is lost. For example, with three selections at decimal odds of 1.50, 1.70, and 1.80, a ৳100 stake gives a potential return of ৳459 — but if even one loses, the full ৳100 is gone.

Yes. In pre-match betting, odds are set before the match starts and do not change after you place your bet. In live or in-play betting, odds update in real time after each wicket, boundary, or over while the match is in progress. Because odds move quickly in live markets, there is less time to make decisions.

Working out the total return from decimal odds is straightforward — stake × odds = total return. Subtract the stake from that to get the profit. Example: a ৳1,000 stake at odds of 2.50 gives a total return of ৳2,500, meaning a profit of ৳1,500. At odds of 1.50 the total return is ৳1,500, meaning a profit of ৳500.
